Troops kill 6 Boko Haram terrorists in Borno

11-year-old boy burnt to death as stepfather allegedly sets house ablaze (photos)

  An 11-year-old boy was reportedly burnt to death while his mother and two other siblings are in critical condition after his stepfather allegedly set ablaze a room they were sleeping in.   According to the owner of the house, the 45-year-old suspect whose name was only given as Agyemang had been having misunderstanding for some time with his fiancée he has been living with at Meduma in the Kwabre East Municipality in Ghana.     On Tuesday, March 16, Mr.Agyemang allegedly sprinkled petrol in a room his fiancée was sleeping in with the children and set it ablaze.   The landlord, Daniel Opoku who narrated the incident to Citi News said he was able to save the fiancée and two other children but couldn’t do the same for the boy due to the intensity of the fire.     “I heard the scream and shouts around 12:00am as she repeatedly kept saying she was dying. We gave Niger Delta governors N100m each as COVID-19 palliatives - NDDC

  The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has said that it gave each of the governors of the nine oil-producing states N100million each as COVID-19 palliatives.    NDDC officials reportedly made the claim while appearing before the Senate Committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions.    Chairman of the Committee, Senator Patrick Ayo Akinyelure told reporters that the Senate may summon the governors to testify on how the money was spent.   Akinyelure who added that the NDDC Sole Administrator must appear before it or risk an arrest warrant being issued against him over non-appearance, added that the money given to the Governors is part of N6.25 billion allegedly expended by the NDDC on COVID-19 palliatives.   He reiterated that the petition over the humongous amount spent by the agency on COVID-19 palliatives will not be swept under the carpet.   Akinyelure said;    “We have already gone through the process of ...

Kidnapped UNIPORT lecturer regains freedom

  A lecturer with the Department of Linguistics and Communication Studies, University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Dr Joe Ayuwo, who was kidnapped by gunmen last month has regained his freedom.    It will be recalled that Dr. Ayuwo was kidnapped on February 21, 2021, while returning from a function in Andoni local government area of Rivers State.    The university don was kidnapped on the same day as his traditional ruler, King Aaron Ikuru, King of Ikuru Town and Chairman Andoni Council of Traditional Rulers in Andoni LGA.    Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the development on Tuesday March 16, said the victim was rescued on Monday, March 15 and is currently receiving medical attention.    Omoni said his release was made possible due to the intense and relentless pressure mounted by the Police.   He disclosed that through technical intelligence, the police spotted their location and was clo...

His album  Twice as Tall  won the award over records by Antibalas ( FU Chronicles ), Bebel Gilberto ( Agora ), Anoushka Shankar ( Love Letters ), and Tinariwen ( Amadjar ). Boko Haram insurgents attack Yobe community, raze school and health care center

  Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents have attacked Katarko community in Gujba Local Government Council of Yobe State, razing a primary school and a healthcare centre located in the community.     Residents of the community say the insurgents stormed the community at about 5:30am on Tuesday March 16, when they were going to the mosque for prayers and started shooting sporadically in the air. The insurgents reportedly proceeded straight to the military formation in Katarko shooting sporadically and later set the base on fire   Katarko community which is 18 kilometers south of Damaturu the state capital, has been under attack over 10 times.   The state government or the state police command is yet to comment on the development and also disclose if there were any casualties.

Four men are hanged in Iran for gang-raping woman in front of her husband who they tied up and forced to watch

Four men have been executed by hanging in Iran for gang-raping a woman in front of her husband who they tied up and made to watch the horrific scene.   The wicked attack took place while the couple were climbing a mountain in the Khorasan Razavi province of Iran.   After an extensive police investigation, the men, Ruhollah Javidi Rad, Mohammad Sayadi Baghansgani, Mohammad Hosseini and Mohammad Watandoost were hanged on Monday, March 16 according to Iranian media.   The rapists were identified by police and were charged with the kidnapping and rape of a woman and with threats of violence towards a man.   The defendants had tied the man's hands and feet together before sexually attacking his wife in front of him.   The Criminal Court of Khorasan Razavi sent the case to the Supreme Court where the four men were sentenced to death by hanging in Mashhad Central Prison.       In Iran, it's a rare occurrence for men to be prosecuted over sexual crim...

  A young man was reportedly killed by suspected bandits in Zamfara while trying to stop them from raping his newly wedded wife on their wedding night.   It was gathered that the incident happened in Gwashi town, Bukkuyum Local Government Area in Zamfara State.    Facebook user, Yusuf Anka shared on Tuesday, March 16, posted photos from the funeral of the young man.    "The remains of a newly wedded Young man being laid to rest in Gwashi, He was killed by bandits while protecting his newly weded wife from being raped by the Bandits on her first day in her matrimonial home" he wrote.   

Islamic Militants are beheading children as young as 11 in Mozambique, aid agency reports

  Aid agency, Save the Children, has reported that Islamist militants with links to ISIS are beheading children as young as 11 in Mozambique's northern province of Cabo Delgado. According to the agency, one mum said she had to watch as her 12-year-old son was killed close to where she was hiding with her other children.   More than 2,500 people have been killed and 700,000 ran from their homes since an Islamist insurgency by militants linked to the Islamic State (IS) group started in Mozambique began operating in 2017.   In its report, Save the Children said it had spoken to displaced families who reported gruesome acts meted out to their kids. One mother, who withheld her name to protect her identity, said her eldest child had been beheaded near where she and her other children were hiding.
