Man shoots mother of his child, kills four of her family members including her 7-year-old daughter over stimulus check

  An Indianapolis man has been arrested for shooting the mother of his child and killing four of her family members, including her 7-year-old daughter, following a dispute over the US coronavirus stimulus check. The man, Malik Halfacre, 25, was arrested on Sunday, March 14, a day after the shootings, and is expected to face murder, robbery, and attempted-murder charges, according to the police and Indiana jail records. After 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, police received a report of a person shot in a home on North Randolph Street. There, the police said, officers found a woman who was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds. That victim told the police that there were additional victims at another home, also on North Randolph Street. At the second home, the police found four gunshot victims whom they identified as Eve Moore, 7; Daquan Moore, 23; Anthony Johnson, 35; and Tomeeka Brown, 44. Nine bandits killed, others arrested in Niger state while waiting to collect ransom

  At least nine suspected bandits were neutralised and others arrested by local vigilante group in Gulu town, Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State while wating to collect ransom from families of abducted victims.    It was gathered that the bandits had earlier raided Gulu town a few days back during which some people were abducted and ransom demanded before they would be released.     According to an eyewiness, the relations of the victims had managed to raise the ransom and they contacted the bandits who gave directive to them on how to deliver the money.   On Sunday night, March 15, the family members went to the spot where the money was to be delivered. Female race driving pioneer, Sabine Schmitz dies at 51 after long battle with cancer

  German racing legend and Top Gear star Sabine Schmitz has died at the age of 51 after a long battle with cancer.   Sabine, widely known as the "Queen of the Nürburgring", had suffered with the illness for more than three years.    A statement issued by the famous German racetrack said: "The Nürburgring has lost its most famous female racing driver.   "Sabine Schmitz passed away far too early after a long illness. We will miss her and her cheerful nature. Rest in peace Sabine!"     Schmitz had previously revealed that she had been suffering with cancer since 2017.   Following her withdrawal from a race, she said in a statement issued last July: "Dear friends of professional motorsport.     "Many of you have probably wondered why I was on the list of participants on our Porsche in the NSL and then didn't drive after all.   "I would like to provide enlightenment here, I think I owe it to my/our fans! Boy, 12, drowns while swimming with friends in Ilorin (graphic)

  A 12-year-old boy, identified as Lekan Benjamin, on Tuesday, March 16, drowned at Asa River in Ilorin while swimming with his friends.   The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate.   He said the incident happened when the victim, a pupil of Junior Secondary School, Ilorin, went swimming with some of his classmates while returning from school.     At about 13:21hrs on March 16, the State Fire Service attended to the scene, at Ejiba Road, off Stadium road, Ilorin.     According to the fire officers present at the scene, the victim, a boy from Oja-iya Area of Ilorin, was recovered dead from the river by the firemen and handed over to his biological father, Mr Monday Benjamin.     Falade John Olumuyiwa (CFO) consoled the family of the victim and advised parents to watch over their children's movement in order to prevent similar occurrences.

  Christians and Muslims clashed in Ilorin, Kwara state capital today March 17 after the state government reopened 10 Christian schools which were initially shut down over a hijab controversy.   The government-funded Christian schools had repeatedly been shut down over a dispute in the usage of Hijab by Muslim students.   However a fight ensued today March 17, after the schools were reopened in line with the state government’s directive.   The fight started after Christian officials of Baptist School, Surulere disallowed the girls in Hijab from gaining access into the school. This did not go down well with Muslim parents, leading to arguments and eventual clash.   The situation grew worse as angry Christian and Muslim faithful throw various objects including stones and plastic chairs at themselves.   The security operatives close to the school had to call for reinforcement to calm the situation.   Three persons died when a Toyota Corolla private car plunged into a river along the ever busy Bauchi-Gombe road.   It was gathered that the vehicle plunged into a river at Tasham Turmi, about three kilometres away from Bara in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.    The Bauchi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Yusuf Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said that the vehicle was discovered by fishermen on Monday, March 15.      He said the incident was reported at the Bara Area Command of the FRSC which mobilised to the scene for a rescue operation, adding that when the car was pulled out of the river, its three occupants, all males, were found dead.   "There was a fatal crash on 12th March, 2021 at Tasham Turmi along Bara-Gombe road involving a Toyota Corolla private car with registration number AG 111-TRR.   Media personality, Dele Momodu has reacted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) directive for bank employees to declare their assets in accordance with the bank employees declaration of assets act.   LIB reported that EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa who gave the directive while speaking with journalists after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday March 16, also gave a June 1 deadline for workers to comply with the directive.   Reacting to this, Momodu asked if the country is currently under a military regime. He also pointed out that banks belong largely to the private sector and declaration of assets should start with government agencies and politicians.    He tweeted;    Are we in a military regime? Man who escaped from prison during #EndSARS protest, handed 14 years jail sentence

  23-year-old Precious Azulule who escaped from the Warri Custodial Centre, Delta State, during the #EndSARS protest, has been handed a 14 year jail sentence.    Azulule reportedly escaped from prison on October 22, 2020 but was rearrested by police operatives on patrol. He was arraigned on two counts of conspiracy and escape from lawful custody, before being jailed for 14 years.    Delta state police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe said in a statement on Tuesday March 16;   “Precious Azubule, who escaped from the Warri Correctional Centre during #EndSARS protest on October 22, 2020, was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment. “Azubulu was arrested by operatives on patrol and arraigned in Magistrate’s Court 4 with charge No. 46/c/2021 on two counts of conspiracy and escape from lawful custody. He was sentenced to seven years on each count, totalling 14 years’ imprisonment.”
